Testa di Pinocchio

Testa di Pinocchio

Testa di Pinocchio is the project presented by Liliana Moro in 2003 on the occasion of the travelling exhibition Playgrounds and Toys, organized by Art for the World, a non-governmental organization founded in Geneva, curated by Adelina von Fürstenberg with the aim of making people aware of the importance of play as a fundamental right, often neglected, for every child. More in detail, the exhibition invited artists, architects and designers form all over the world – among which Vito Acconci, Alfredo Jaar, Daniel Buren, Eva Marisaldi, Enzo Mari - to propose projects of playgrounds and toys conceived for those children who live in situations of social injustice, such as minor refugees[1].

The project consisted in the realization of a house toy for kids with the shape of Pinocchio’s head, with a slide coming out of Pinocchio’s mouth, swings made from tires hanging from the ears and fake bricks on the sides to let the children climb up.

Talking about her project, the artist declared:

I would like to realize a head of an animal or of a fairy tale character that will become a place for playing. A big colored head, anchored in the earth, where children could play inside and outside, using its parts: nose, eyes, mouth, ears. They can enter inside the head and watch out of the mouth, climb to the top of the head, hang of the nose or swing from one ear[2].
